LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE

Leadership Challenge art

The Leadership Challenge® helps leaders mobilize others to want to get extraordinary things done. It approaches leadership as a measurable, learnable and teachable set of behaviors and is rooted in the belief that leaders, teams and organizations improve when ordinary people enable those around them to achieve extraordinary results.

Based on data from over 20,000 leaders and 100,000 constituents over 30 years. Jim Kuzes and Barry Posner (authors of The Leadership Challenge) found that the Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership could be learned. Think about it…with the right knowledge and environment for learning you can create teams of leaders ready to get extraordinary things done.

The Leadership Challenge is uniquely suited to benefit any organization, because it is adaptable, learnable and easy to implement. Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership provide a framework that brings common language to all levels of an organization. Activated by the powerful LPI: Leadership Practices Inventory assessment, The Leadership Challenge unlocks the power of those who aspire to be not just good leaders, but exemplary ones. The Leadership Challenge has the flexibility to be your whole program or a great compliment to existing initiatives.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP CHALLENGE

Many companies have internship programs which compete for the best and the brightest often using these opportunities to “test out” potential new hires. The Student Leadership Challenge offers interns the chance to prepare for leadership greatness and to take the initiative to make a difference. The Student Leadership Challenge teaches young leaders how to mobilize others to want to get extraordinary things done. It’s about the practices leaders use to transform values into actions, visions into realities, obstacles into innovations, separateness into solidarity and risks into rewards. It’s creating a climate in which people turn challenging opportunities into remarkable successes. The Student Leadership Challenge can be a differentiator for your internship program.

At Northstar Team Development we believe that it is important to create cultures of exemplary leadership. We recommend utilizing the Student Leadership Challenge in concert with The Leadership Challenge for senior leadership, administration, faculty and staff.

CHALLENGE COURSE . . . EXPERIENTIAL TEAM DEVELOPMENT

Our Challenge Course activities are conducted in a natural environment or inside venue. We provide an experiential approach that encourages questions, interaction and communications while fostering leadership and encouraging teamwork and cooperation in the Board Room, the meeting room or wherever your team works.

Our outdoor challenge course is made up of high and low elements on our own 100 -acre campus in Lower Nazareth Township. We have a full range of challenges designed to meet the needs of any group. Our professional facilitators work with you to develop a custom curriculum specifically designed to match your goals and desired outcomes.

ASSESSMENT

Teams are made up of individuals and individuals are unique. When you understand what makes your individual employees tick, you can turn an angry, defensive and unproductive employee into an engaged one. Why? Because you find out what turns them off, what motivates them, how they like to be treated and determine if they are coachable.

Northstar Team Development professionals have a range of assessments in their toolkit. We work with you to find the assessment that will work best with your employee or whole workforce.  No matter your needs and organizational goals, employee assessments can help you find the treasure buried inside your team members. Assessments boost self-awareness, identify strengths, and help the participants develop specific actions for growth and transformation.

Our assessments can provide your team members with invaluable information on:

  • Behavioral styles
  • Listening styles
  • Underlying motivators
  • Leadership behaviors
  • Thinking styles
  • Emotional intelligence skills

Your higher-level executives may want to participate in an in-depth behavioral and performance profile that will show them how that can all work together and how to use their individual styles to create a dynamic and high performance team. Or you may want to use simple behavioral profiles to understand members of the team and help them work together cooperatively.

The following assessments boost self-awareness, identify strengths and provide specific actions for development.

DISC

The DiSC assessment helps people understand their own behavioral styles and also to recognize why others may behave differently. The assessment educates leaders on how to effectively communicate with styles different from their own. The DISC assessment delivers a variety of applications for leadership development, talent management, recruiting, communication and organizational effectiveness. DISC helps individuals and teams to minimize conflict, increase engagement, boost morale and collaborate more effectively. How? By teaching people not only how to recognize their different DISC styles but also how to adapt their own behavior to better align with others.

Emotional Intelligence

Responsible for 58% of job performance, Emotional Intelligence skills are elastic and can be expanded or lost depending on awareness and practice. Our assessment identifies a person’s total Emotional Quotient (EQ), Levels of self-awareness, self regulation, social skills and empathy are not only assessed but specific ways to enhance and are offered.

The Leadership Practices Inventory® (LPI)

To develop, nurture, and empower your leaders, you need a breakthrough tool that does more than simply measure and assess leadership skills. The LPI®: Leadership Practices Inventory® is a breakthrough resource for measuring the frequency with which people practice leadership behaviors. The LPI, created by leadership researchers Jim Kouzes and Barry Posner, measures The Five Practices of Exemplary Leadership® – the most trusted model for liberating the leader in everyone.

The LPI enables organizations to measure their leadership competencies in relation to the Five Practices and act on their discoveries.

  • The LPI is a self-assessment and/or a 360-degree assessment tool with observers: it illuminates both the effectiveness of your organization’s leaders and the level of commitment, engagement and satisfaction of those who follow. It does so by measuring how frequently a leader demonstrates 30 observable behaviors.
  • Engaging aspiring leaders in the LPI experience has consistently proven to generate positive outcomes for organizations looking to build a common language and vision around goals; create a climate of trust that fosters innovation and creativity; and improve operational efficiencies, performance and bottom-line results through enhanced collaboration and teamwork.
  • The LPI provides a metric against which to measure progress in behavioral practices from year to year.

HBDI (Whole Brain Thinking Model)

The foundation for thinking, agility, cognitive diversity, and innovative thinking, The HBDI® is a powerful psychometric assessment that defines and describes the way a person thinks and processes information. It provides insight into why a person values certain types of information over others. With that valuable knowledge about yourself and others, managers, co-workers and direct reports can learn how to “flex” into other ways of thinking learning how others think, what they value and how they communicate.

The HBDI is built on Whole Brain® Thinking, a holistic and complete model for making decisions.
